about

If you haven’t taken note of reas this past year, you have been sorely missing out. The only sixteen year old producer from Russia is part of a new wave of slushwave artists, who are abandoning the sampling of already existing tracks and instead infusing the reverberated, phasered sound of the genre with their very own ideas and compositions.

Which is why we are very grateful to reas for making this special end-of-the-year release available to us listeners: 雲での生活 (Life in the clouds) is the newest chapter in an already quite remarkable artistic journey. It’s the ideal soundtrack to that liminal state we find ourselves in this New Year’s Eve, with the old year not quite over and the new one not quite beginning.

The album draws you in with a deliciously extended and hypnotizing intro section before finally erupting into a majestic, almost celebratory crescendo that feels like a soaring incorporeal flight over a bustling metropolis and its moonlit vistas. The ever-present whirl of the winter wind underscores that bittersweet awareness of being removed from all of society and its earthly wants and habits down below. How do we fit into this world down there? And what does it all mean?

You might find some answers in the following pieces: Melodies that serve as emotionally charged mantras and a percussion creating a boundless melancholic expanse invite the listener to reflect on where they are coming from and where they are going …

To make this release even more special, reas also grants us a peek behind the curtain: downloading the album comes with the tracks that served as the basis for the album. It’s fascinating to hear what these charming synth compositions sound like before the slush magic has happened. And to top it all off, there are two additional brand new bonus tracks coming with the album, that you don't want to miss.
